Amid its run as a world power, Team Canada — which took gold at the 2006 Paralympic Winter Games and the 2008 World Championships — owned the initial five years of the rivalry, claiming 19 of the first 23 Border Series meetings.
The U.S. found revenge outside the series when it defeated Canada in overtime of a semifinal matchup at the 2009 World Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands.
