Columbine and Castle View are jockeying for position in the Atlantic Conference standings. The two teams are in a three-way tie with Heritage for third place, trailing Ralston Valley and Vail.
Columbine (3-6, 3-3) has won three of its last four games after an 0-5 start to the regular season. Castle View (3-3, 3-1) has been trending the other direction, though it ended a three-game losing streak by beating Vail 5-2 on Oct. 17.
Jaret Curran had two goals, Lathan Olson tallied three assists, and goaltender Brayden Johnson stopped 35 shots in the defeat of Vail. The five goals scored were two more than the Sabercats had in their previous three games combined.
Seth Kern and Bryce Elliott have spurred Columbine's recent surge. Kern scored six times and Elliott tallied four goals in the Rebels' three victories, and each picked up a hat trick in a 7-2 victory over Chatfield on Oct. 3. Kern has a team-high nine goals this fall.
