“We want everyone to have a team and an opportunity to play the game. It’s a lifelong sport and to have an opportunity for everyone is a huge focus for growing the game the right way,” Westbrook said.
Her experience coaching younger athletes who are unfamiliar with the game in Beijing has added perspective to her leadership approach in finding what’s best for each individual.
“I’ve worked with kids that are hand-picked on Division I programs, and I can change (my approach) because I do understand the opportunity,” she said. “Working in Beijing with younger kids, I have a big spectrum of how things work. Bringing that experience into Colorado, I can offer a wide range and understanding of each athletes’ goal and what kind of path they want to take.”
