With over 40 High Plains Hockey League games going on this past week, we take a moment to recognize some of the top performers that helped lead their teams

Top Performers of the Week: April 11-14

Mountain Militia goalie #33 Maksim Rashchupkin put together two victories this weekend.

As the weather outside begins to heat up, so does the 2019 High Plains Hockey League spring season.  We take our weekly look at players that have helped their teams achieve success on the ice due to their play.  Here are our selections for HPHL Players of the Week during April 11-14.

We start with a pair of Tier I teammates from Mountain Militia that helped guide them to a couple of impressive wins on the weekend. The Summit Tiger's (CHSAA) leading scorer Issac Eland (2 G, 5 A) put together a seven point week for Militia, scoring a goal in each victory while collecting more apples than Sir Issac Newton during their two wins.  Summit goaltender Maksim Rashchupkin (2 W, 32 SV, 1 GAA, .941 SV%) was equally impressive, producing two, 16 save wins in net for Mountain Militia.  He pulled out a 5-1 triumph over Cherry Creek on Saturday and then helped crush Fairview 14-1 on Sunday afternoon.

Fossil Ridge Tier II also had a dynamic duo that was responsible for sparking a trio of victories for them over the week.  Makai Mitchell (7 G, 2 A) could not be stopped, lighting the lamp seven times in three games, including two hat tricks, and adding a pair of helpers to boot.  Kaleb Choury (3 W, 94 SV, 2 GAA, .940 SV%) stood on his head for three straight contests, making 37 saves in a convincing win over Longmont (9-2), backed that up with a 30 save performance in a 7-3 win against Monarch, and finished the weekend with a 27 save victory versus Arapahoe (4-1).

Making a second straight appearance on our top performers segment is Rocky Hockey Tier IV leading scorer Kevin Arndt (12 G, 4 A, 16 PTS in five games).  Arndt (7 G, 2 A) had a massive nine point weekend for Rocky, collecting three points (2 G, 1 A) in 10-1 thumping of Longmont, and then was involved in six of the seven goals scored (5 G, 1 A) in a 7-5 win over Arvada West.

Our last selection also comes from the Tier IV ranks, as Jason Ruszka (6 G, 2 A) of Arvada West managed to put up two hat trick games this week.  Ruska had three goals and an assist in both of his games, helping Arvada to a 9-5 win on Friday night and repeated his performance in a 7-5 setback to Rocky on Sunday.

Kevin Arndt of Rocky Hockey has been on a tear over the past couple of HPHL weeks.
