A number of the state’s youth hockey teams will take advantage of the holiday break by competing in the annual Colorado Cup Tournament from Dec. 27-30 in Colorado Springs and Pueblo.
The four-day event will host teams from Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas and Wyoming competing in one of nine tournaments — 18U/16U combined, bantam A, A and B, peewee AA, A and B, and squirt A and B.
Games will be held at the Broadmoor World Arena and Serith Ice Center in Colorado Springs, and at the Pueblo Plaza Ice Arena in Pueblo, with the championship matches set for Sunday evening and Monday.

The tourney is the second of three major events hosted by the Colorado Springs Amateur Hockey Association, starting with the Salute to Veterans Tournament in early November. The final tourney slated is the well-regarded Presidents’ Day Tournament in February.
The state’s hockey fans will be focused on the Pikes Peak region that weekend with the Feb. 15 NHL Stadium Series game between the Los Angeles Kings and Colorado Avalanche at the Air Force Academy’s Falcon Stadium. That will be the second NHL outdoor game ever held in the Centennial State.
