Hub exclusive: The CAHA regular season is nearing its conclusion and the State Championship Series is less than a month away.

Each week through the end of February, the CO Hockey Hub will highlight the top teams in select divisions, identify squads making big jumps in the CO Hockey Hub Now Rankings and spotlight classifications with competitive races in the chase for state tournament bids.

The top four teams in the final rankings for each division earn a spot in the CAHA State Championship. All teams not qualifying for the state tournament are eligible to participate in the Avalanche Cup, which is a part of the CAHA State Championship Series.

The CAHA State Championship and Avalanche Cup placements will be revealed March 2. The state tournament is March 13-15 and the Avalanche Cup is March 6-8.

We continue our spotlight coverage this week with a look at the Boys 10U AA and with a roundup of some of CAHA's smaller girls' divisions.

At this point, Littleton is adding icing to the cake with a week remaining in the regular season. It has the top seed for the Boys 10U AA state tournament locked up and is still unbeaten through 32 games.

It did, however, suffer one of its two ties over the weekend.

Hyland Hills, a non-division team, tied Littleton (30-0-2, 97.01 rating) 2-2 on Saturday. Littleton finished with a 4-0-2 record in this series between two Colorado Competitive Youth Hockey League squads.

Littleton bounced back on Sunday to down Colorado Springs 6-0. On Monday, it beat Krivo 6-0 and CO Springs 11-2. Littleton’s up to a whopping 17 shutouts and owns a 5.81 goal differential. It’s average goal differential is more than double any other 10U AA team.

It lists two games remaining on its CCYHL schedule coming up against No. 7 DU (0-22-1, 45.67) on Saturday and No. 3 Arvada Gold (16-11-2, 88.01) the next day.

Separation has set in not only for the leader, but for seeds 2-4.

In good shape to take second place is Northern Colorado Youth Hockey (NCYH). It sits at 15-5-0 with a 91.24 rating and 2.6 average goal differential.

While NCYH went 0-2 against the division’s top dog, it avoided a shutout in both matchups. The highlight of the season was a 10-game win streak between October and December.

NCYH closes out the regular season this weekend against CO Springs and Boulder Hockey Club (BHC).

Arvada Gold has had a fairly steady season, with a pair of four-game win streaks under its belt and hasn’t lost more than three games in a row. It’s 0-4 against Littleton, but battled to a 3-2 loss on Jan. 17. It was 1-3 against NCYH and 1-2-1 against No. 4 Krivo (8-8-2, 86.35). Arvada closes out with a pair of tough matchups against Hyland Hills and Littleton.

Krivo has been battle tested of late. Five of its last nine games have been ties or one-goal affairs. It’s 2-1-2 in those games.

GIRLS' ROUNDUP

14U Tier II

There are four teams in this division, though only two have played games that count toward the state rankings. CO Select finished 2-1-2 in its games against Aspen Leafs. CO Select is No. 1 and has an 88.61 rating compared to No. 2 Aspen Leafs which has an 84.03 rating.

The other teams do not have a ranking.

16U Tier II

The BHC Lady Roughriders do not have any competition in this division, thus they don't have any qualifying games toward the rankings. In their non-division games, they’re listed at 4-3-1.

19U Tier II

There are four teams in this division, though only two are in the rankings. No. 1 Aspen Leafs swept a five-game series with the Littleton Lady Hawks by a 34-1 goals advantage.

The BHC Lady Roughriders and CO Select are the other two teams in the division.
