Colorado’s best girls’ hockey players will descend upon the Sports Stable in Superior starting Friday for this year’s Team Colorado Hockey tryouts.

Team Colorado Hockey is the state’s AAA Girls Hockey Club, and gives the state’s top girls’ hockey players a way to hone their skills — both on and off the ice — with collegiate hockey careers being the ultimate goal. Unlike in boys’ hockey, after 19U AAA hockey, there aren't a lot of amateur development paths for girls’ skaters. Team Colorado strives to develop each player and connect them with some of the country’s top NCAA programs.

Team Colorado Hockey recently announced a finalized 2020 tryout schedule for the 14U, 16U and 19U teams. The 14U team is new this year and will replace the 14U tournament team, which had been a part of Team Colorado since its start in 2017. All three teams will compete on the national level for a chance to play in the USA Hockey National Championships in West Chester, Pennsylvania, next March.

The three-day tryouts include an on-ice session for goalies only, which starts late afternoon on July 10. The rest of the players will lace up their skates and hit the ice for sessions Saturday and Sunday.

Due to COVID-19 guidelines, players and coaches will be required to wear face masks when entering and exiting the Sports Stable. They’ll also have their temperatures checked and are asked to bring their own water bottle. Parents won’t be allowed to attend this year’s tryouts, but Team Colorado Hockey will live stream the entire on-ice tryout, giving parents a virtual option to watch their child compete. More information can be found by clicking here.

Team Colorado coaches will select 18 skaters and two goalies for each team. After the tryout, players will get an email or phone call letting them know whether they made the cut. The 2020-21 season gets underway at the end of August. Check back for final rosters, as well as team schedules, once squads are finalized.
