Coloradans Ty Smilanic and Kaidan Mbereko highlight the newly released Team USA roster for the World Junior Summer Showcase. The event takes place at the end of July.

Smilanic recently completed his freshman year at Quinnipiac University after being drafted by the Florida Panthers 74th overall in October's 2020 NHL Entry Draft. He had 21 points in 29 games for the Bobcats this season, including 14 goals.

The Denver native played for the Colorado Thunderbirds 16U team for two seasons during part of his time close to home.

Mbereko spent his last season playing for the U.S. National Team Development Program in Plymouth, Michigan, where the WJSS is taking place.

The Aspen native had a 3.01 goals-against average and a .885 save percentage in 21 games played for the National U18 Team, the largest sample he had on one team in 2020-21.

In addition to the duo from Colorado, three more players are set to become a bit more familiar with the state.

Forward Carter Mazur and defensemen Sean Behrens and Shai Buium are each committed to play college hockey at the University of Denver.

The WJSS takes place July 24-31 at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan, and is used to help identify players for the U.S. National Junior Team, which will participate in the 2022 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta in late December 2021 and early January 2022.

This year's showcase will include teams from Finland and Sweden.
