Aspen native Kaidan Mbereko could be well on his way back to the Centennial State. On July 13, Mbereko announced his commitment to play collegiately at Colorado College.
"Proud to announce my commitment to play D1 hockey at Colorado College. Thank you to all my family, friends, teammates and coaches for all you've done along the way," Mbereko posted on Twitter.
The 18-year-old goaltender has spent the last two seasons with USA Hockey's National Team Development Program, playing on the U17 and U18 squads. Mbereko went 15-8 with a 4.02 goals-against average and a .862 save percentage in 2019-20 with the U17 program and only improved his standing this season with the U18 team, in which he touted a 14-5 record with a 2.92 goals-against average and a .888 save percentage.
Prior to playing for USA Hockey's National Development Team Program, Mbereko played for Belle Tire 13U AAA in 2016-17, Compuware 14U AAA in 2017-18 and Little Caesars 16U AAA in 2018-19. But Mbereko's hockey career first began in a beginner's hockey program in Aspen at 5 years old.
In addition to announcing his commitment to Colorado College, Mbereko was also drafted sixth overall in the Phase II 2021 USHL draft on May 27 by the Lincoln Stars.
