Before the start of the Colorado Prep Hockey League (CPHL) season, Regis Jesuit assistant coach Terry Ott proposed an idea to Raiders head coach Dan Woodley.
Ott suggested that Regis Jesuit have two Tier 1 CPHL teams rather than both a Tier 1 and Tier 2 team like it had in past seasons. Woodley was apprehensive at first but was eventually convinced because he thought it would provide the best opportunity for all of the players on the roster. So far, it appears to be the right decision.
In the first CPHL action of the season, both Regis Jesuit teams — Red and White — reached the championship game of the fifth annual Early Bird Tournament. Ott-led Red struck first but Woodley-coached White scored twice in the second period en route to a 2-1 win on Monday at the Sports Stable.
