Colorado Avalanche Amateur Hockey Development is giving kids an opportunity to try street hockey this summer with its Game On initiative.
Each participant will be eligible to receive a free Avalanche branded street hockey stick and ball. Game On also features a UCHealth inflatable street hockey rink that is 35 feet wide and 75 feet long, and an Avalanche logo target to shoot at.
Bernie loves playing street hockey in the inflatable hockey rink.
“Game On is an opportunity for kids to try hockey,” program coordinator John Michalec said. “A lot of the events we set up for Game On, maybe the kids have had interest in hockey but never had an opportunity. Hockey can be an expensive sport. Street hockey is a good opportunity to try.”
Street hockey games sometimes break out at Game On events, as well as instruction from the Amateur Hockey Development team on fundamental hockey skills and etiquette. And you never know when Bernie the St. Bernard will show up.
“It helps that kids see other kids have fun,” Michalec said. “When one kid is a little timid or unsure about hockey, when they see another kid have fun, it’s a snowball effect. Sometimes you have 20 to 30 kids in the rink.”
It is the Amateur Hockey Development team’s goal to hand out 10,000 sticks and balls this season. With your participation, Game On can continue to grow and develop hockey in Colorado.
