RMJHL Hires Mike Gempeler as Commissioner

By Staff 03/31/2015, 3:45pm MDT

Officially established after gaining formal approval from USA Hockey in December 2014, the Rocky Mountain Junior Hockey League recently hired Mike Gempeler as the league’s first commissioner

Officially established after gaining formal approval from USA Hockey in December 2014, the Rocky Mountain Junior Hockey League recently hired Mike Gempeler as the league’s first commissioner. Gempeler brings a wealth of knowledge and connections to the new six-team league. “Mike is a homerun hire,” stated RMJHL President Shaun Hathaway. “His experience and commitment to advancing players align with the RMJHL mission, and his leadership and passion strengthens our ability to achieve our established goals.”

Gempeler is the founder and president of the US Junior Development Program and the CCM Hockey showcase. The USJDP is one of the top Junior Development programs in the U.S. for Bantam, Midget and Junior players. The CCM Showcase annually features over 400 players from over 10 different countries, and is scouted by over 125 college and junior coaches. “Having spent 15 years helping place players across the country in the various junior leagues via the USJDP Junior Prep Camp and CCM Hockey Showcase, I know there are a lot of talented players in Colorado,” Gempeler explains. “It only seems fitting that we create a well-run, well coached Junior A league right in their backyard.”

Along with his extensive entrepreneurial experience creating and growing sport-based companies, Gempeler has a solid understanding of the game at the grass roots level. He has helped coach professional and junior hockey in Switzerland, Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, and Finland. He founded Rocky Mountain Hockey Schools in 1996, and from 1999-2002 he served as the Denver University Video Coach. Gempeler played four years of college hockey at Gustavus Adolphus College in MN.

As the commissioner, Gempeler will manage the daily RMJHL business including handling all scheduling, marketing, and disciplinary issues. RMJHL Vice President Angelo Ricci was quick to endorse the recent addition. “Mike brings a ton of experience and knowledge He has the expertise not only on the hockey side but on the business side of things. He will quickly help develop and expand the branding and marketing of the RMJHL.”

Colorado Rivals Bask in National Titles

By Jason L. Young - Special to USAHockey.com 03/25/2015, 11:30am MDT

Regis Jesuit and Cherry Creek are just 17 minutes apart and both won national titles.

CHESTERFIELD, MO. -- If a state park didn’t separate the two high school hockey programs, little else would.

Regis Jesuit and Cherry Creek, both from the southeastern suburbs of Denver, won their respective divisions Monday at the Toyota-USA Hockey High School National Championships. It marked the second national title for Regis and capped a remarkable season that included a state championship for Cherry Creek.

NGIN Update

By CAHA 03/03/2015, 12:45pm MST

Update on the changeover to the NGIN scoring system and recent developments...

Dear CAHA Members,

This season saw the changeover from PointStreak to the new Sport NGIN Scoring System.   The transformation was prompted by the benefit of a more intimate customer relationship between CAHA and the scoring system providers; the ability to have a real-time online scoring system; and the myriad of functional statistical features that are available through the NGIN platform.

As expected there have been some teething pains;  mostly related adaptation to a new and unfamiliar interface but in general the system has performed to CAHA’s expectations.  CAHA knows that change is not always welcome or for that matter seamless.  On the whole our membership has embraced the changeover and CAHA has taken the lead in making sure the system is the best it can be including appointing a new Director of Electronic Scoring.  Sport NGIN has worked with CAHA and its members to support the new system and they continue to work with us to add features to enhance the system’s value to CAHA.

Some of our members may be aware that recently the NGIN system suffered a loss of continuity in parts of the CDYHL and CCYHL leagues.  There was an interruption of the past game statistics and standings.  To be clear we now know this resulted from an issue related to CAHA not NGIN – an input mistake was made on our part.   As soon as the issue was discovered NGIN was notified and began to work on a solution.  NGIN kept CAHA informed of the progress and worked hard to identify the issue and restore the games and underlying statistics.   A task that was completed quickly and efficiently.

We are working hard at CAHA to support our members and address all of the scoring related issues as they happen.  NGIN is working as a partner with us to ensure that the best scoring platform is available to our leagues.  We know there will be issues and we are all still learning, unfortunately, sometimes the hard way.   We can’t say enough positive things about NGIN and how they handled this latest matter.  It was a true test of their technical support and system backups – trial by fire.  CAHA remains excited about the potential of the NGIN system and we are working hand-in-hand with Sports NGIN to add features and functionality to the platform to better serve our members.

We appreciates your patience and understanding related to this latest difficulty and we welcome your feedback on how we can serve our members better, be it scoring related or otherwise.
