The safety of its participants is of paramount importance to USA Hockey. USA Hockey SafeSport is the organization's program related to off-ice safety.
USA Hockey has long had systems in place to protect its participants from physical abuse, sexual abuse and other types of abuse and misconduct that can be harmful to youth hockey players and other participants. These include without limitation Physical Abuse, Sexual Abuse, Screening, Locker Room Supervision and Hazing Policies, in addition to Codes of Conduct applicable to administrators, coaches, officials, parents, players and spectators. The USA Hockey SafeSport Handbook is intended to update and collect USA Hockey’s various policies to protect its participants from all types of misconduct and abuse.

CAHA is proud to announce our partnership with Player’s Health Protect. The PH Protect application is a web and mobile application for athletes, coaches, parents, and volunteers to report any abuse (emotional, physical, bullying, hazing and sexual) within their organization. CAHA is committed to not only improving the skill development of its Members but also the continuous safety and the welfare of its Members. CAHA believes that creating a “child–safe” organization depends on having clear structures and an open and aware culture in place. It is the role of the governing state body to the sport and to set standards for all Members. CAHA is making compliance with USA Hockey SafeSport Program a condition of affiliation. CAHA supports full implementation of the USA Hockey SafeSport Program including the assignment of a Member SafeSport Coordinator, and requires each organization to read, understand and know the USA Hockey and CAHA SafeSport Program. The USA Hockey SafeSport Program is designed to provide clear guidelines and expectations for all players, coaches and organization members on:
- Abuse or misconduct prevention policies
- Training and educations for all members
- Safe and confidential reporting
- Fair, thorough and transparent investigations
PHP app will empower and enable athletes and all members to take reporting misconduct and abuse into their own hands. This app allows users to report abuse and learn about prevention through their phones on the PHP app.
CAHA has always been a leader in athlete protection and welfare. Their full support and implementation of SafeSport, as well as offering free training and education to all members, and now partnering with PHP, CAHA is proud of being a leader in this field.
Our programs can be successful in creating safer environments for our most valuable members, our athletes, by requiring SafeSport participation by all members. All of which is backed up with the full support of the CAHA BOD and affiliate SafeSport Coordinator, Michelle Peterson, a recognized expert in the field of abuse prevention in youth sports. Additionally, CAHA has contracted with Michelle to support Associations and Independent Teams in implementation, investigations, training and education.
